IRC Log - Mon September 22

<angch> paragasu, gonna repeat meself: depends on the workload.
* kaeru has set up skel http://foss.org.my/projects/events/foss.my/
* doubleukay-1 excuses myself :)
<kaeru> we need a few teams
<angch> kaeru, was in .sg last week. anything discussed?
<kaeru> angch: nope
 - Presentations/Programme
 - Workshops (if any) or alternatives like Lightning talks
<angch> hah. comparisons of linux and bsd filesystems. :)
<kaeru> - Technical logistics.. networking etc
 - Publicity
 - Secretariat
<angch> venue... how big is it? size? rooms?
<kaeru> angch: there should be several class rooms able to fit 30 people
 I haven't had a chance to see it
 Oct 10 would be firs time
 it's newly renovated
 there should be lecture halls
<doubleukay-1> it gets fun if you were to s/best filesystem/best distributed filesystem/ --> (2008-09-22 23:31:11) paragasu: so.. based on ur experience.. what is the best filesystem?
<-- ccharles|luna has quit ()
<kaeru> is everybody ok with the theme/format?
<sweemeng> wait
<sweemeng> kaeru you talking about foss.my?
<kaeru> yeah
<sweemeng> barcamp style?
<kaeru> I think it's better if it's a bit more organised
<sweemeng> you know
<angch> kaeru, looks okay, but i'm more of a fan of barcamp unofficial style these days, because it may be better to tailor some talks to the type of folks who turn up.
<angch> unless we can guarantee who/what type turns up.
 catch-22. get the talks to get folks interested, or the other way round.
<kaeru> I'm going for a mix
<sweemeng> one thing is it is more professional in nature
<angch> get a few keynote to set the tone.
<sweemeng> more specific
* kaeru edits wiki to add keynote
<sweemeng> i am thinking have someone talk about their project
--> BuffaloSoldier (n=rasta@ubuntu/member/BuffaloSoldier) has joined #myoss
<kaeru> I think a mix would be good
 we would have a keynote(s)
 some preconfirmed presentations
 and lightning talk sessions
<angch> yeah, a mix, maybe organize them into tracks of business/community; tech; etc.
<sweemeng> yes
--> mib_p106ic7g (i=3c347c9a@gateway/web/ajax/mibbit.com/x-09126b30be628299) has joined #myoss
<sweemeng> how i think it can work
<kaeru> It should work ok
<sweemeng> one lightning talk
<kaeru> if we have lightning talks in small classrooms
<sweemeng> yes
<angch> i'd probably do a tech talk. either on drupal, pgsql, or heh, filesystems.
 which one would be more appealing? imho drupal, pgsql may be dry.
<sweemeng> filesystem is cool
<angch> or a pure programming/software devel talk? in foss.my?
<sweemeng> having people to talk programming is really nice
<kaeru> I think we need more tech talks
<sweemeng> but i think sysadmin talk is more appealling to more people
<kaeru> too many vendor talks
 in .my
<sweemeng> arrr
* angch editing to add a filesystem talk into wiki...
<mib_p106ic7g> am i late? any summaries, or logs?
* kaeru will paste logs
--> zibin (n=zibin@pat-tdc.opera.com) has joined #myoss
<kaeru> we're discussing programme right now
<angch> mib_p106ic7g, http://foss.org.my/projects/events/foss.my/
<sweemeng> what is the target group
<kaeru> technical
 new developers
 experienced developers
<sweemeng> 1 or 2 vendor is k
 not more
<kaeru> no.. no vendor talks
 that's my opinion
<sweemeng> okie
 better
<kaeru> eg.
 if mysql.. talk on features, techniques.. not "Unbreakable MySQL 24/7"
 project/real experiences would be better
<sweemeng> yes
<angch> i bytebot turns up, i'm gonna do pgsql.
 s/i/if/
* kaeru runs 15,000 hit/s site running on mysql.. this is how we do it
<sweemeng> hehe
<kaeru> something like that
<sweemeng> that's cool
<kaeru> but I think some introductory level stuff is also good
<mib_p106ic7g> angch: postgresql replication?
<sweemeng> that is a must
<mib_p106ic7g> that'd be a great topic
<sweemeng> especially when we have student with us
<kaeru> what I suggest is that people add title.. then add a little bracket
 eg.
<angch> mib_p106ic7g, uh, i'll stay away from pgsql replication for now, until i grok slony.
<kaeru> pgsql optimization (presentation)
 developing apps on z3 with grok (workshop)
<toydi> hi, will there be talk about setup/maintain linux distro mirror repo?
<kaeru> toydi: can be.. you want to do it? :)
 BuffaloSoldier has experience, he set up oscc's mirrors
<toydi> yeah, i wanna learn from other's experience
<kaeru> python rocks (lightning talk)
<sweemeng> hacking the wrt54gl
<kaeru> yup
<sweemeng> i can do that kaeru, i mean python
<kaeru> add your own, encourage others
 then we figure out how to schedule
<mib_p106ic7g> who's taking notes? or are we to update the wiki (which is at .. ?)
* kaeru has logs, you can you edit the wiki later
<sweemeng> http://foss.org.my/projects/events/foss.my/FOSS.my-event
 lisp................
<angch> er.. been hacking away at the wiki, sorry. at least on my possible topics.
<mib_p106ic7g> oh, that's a wiki?
<sweemeng> -_-||
<angch> not a wiki, but an editable community resource....
<kaeru> hehe
--> edubuntu (i=xserver@wbb248.fwa9.jaring.my) has joined #myoss
<kaeru> if you add

      word

 it becomes one :)
--- edubuntu is now known as msrazi
<msrazi> hello all
<sweemeng> what interesting
 have the fedora guys to teach fedora too
<kaeru> we also need some technical volunteers for networking..
 getting stuff ready
<sweemeng> then it will not be too ubuntu centered for end user
<kaeru> ubuntu ftw
<mib_p106ic7g> kaeru - you doing grok wshop - build website in 30 minutes kinda thing?
<sweemeng> i join any, that need people
 django ftw
 django is nice
<angch> sweemeng, do django!
<sweemeng> then ruby on rails too
 yeah
<kaeru> Later on.. at your own pace, either put your talks down if you wish to speak/hold workshop
<sweemeng> i will
<mib_p106ic7g> gae?
<sweemeng> not open enough
<mib_p106ic7g> what's the time limit?
<sweemeng> sorry mib_p106ic7g
<kaeru> depends
 presentations (45mins?)
 lightning talks 10-15mins
 workshops.. 1hr ++ ?
<sweemeng> wow
<kaeru> for now just put down
 and then we will figure out how to schedule it
<sweemeng> do we have hackathon?
<mib_p106ic7g> is zope 2 still an in thing?
<kaeru> z3!
<zibin> yea
<angch> kaeru, can we get some form of rsvp going to at least gauge the interest of attendees?
<zibin> hackathon
 sounds cool
<angch> facebook? linked-in?
<sweemeng> because a friend of mine working on a erp for him self, and ready to open source it
 so i thought it would be interesting to do the hackathon on it
<kaeru> angch: either/both will do
<mib_p106ic7g> haha, no z2 eh
<zibin> do we have anything in mind for the hackathon
--> ccharles|luna (n=ccharles@80.233.255.142) has joined #myoss
