Many people have heard about RPMs, and probably have used them before. But how many of you actually know how to create one? Wai-Sun Chia will be presenting on how to create RPMs for usage in your environment,thus speeding up your ability to roll out, update, and secure servers.

OpenDocument Format (ODF) is an international ISO/IEC standard for office productivity suites that promises to provide full interoperability using a truly open standard. The talk will explain what ODF is and its benefits, how it is implemented as open source and proprietary applications, the way forward for Malaysia and the issues that need to be overcome.

Jaya Kumar will be demonstrating the OLPC ( formerly MIT $100 Dollar Laptop ) revA development board, his experience writing the audio driver for it, talking about mass computing projects and how the Malaysian government and citizens can help. Jaya Kumar is an Embedded Systems architect who has contributed the cs5535audio/IDE, Arc LCD, new quickcam_messenger, DMC9000 touchscreen driver and other works to the Linux kernel and to the Xorg project.

ICT Student Society, IIUM will be organizing Free & Open Source Software Carnival 2006, on 28th & 29th July 2006, in Universiti Islam Antarabangsa. The highlights will be for Open Source Showcase, CodeFest, Talk, Workshop, and also LPIC exam.

In conjunction with FOSSCAR 2006 organized by Information & Communication Technology Student Society (ICTSS) of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), we're happy to announce that we'll be organizing the fourth community driven LPI certification session.

The theme for this month is international speakers! This month we have two special guest speakers from overseas Wouter Tebbens, and Görkem Çetin. Wouter would present on the SELF project, and help contribute his experience to the Malaysian Community. Görkem will be presenting on his Turkish government led distribution Pardus. This is a once in a life time chance, so don't miss out on it!

In order to cope with the growing interest in the MyOSS Meetups, we will be moving once again (yes I apologize) to a bigger location. Our new host is Open University Malaysia, and we hope to work with them to improve the adoption of Free and Open Source Software in universities. This month bring us Eugene Teo who will be presenting Dynamic Linux Kernel Instrumentation. The next speaker will be Aizat Faiz, speaking on The Onion Router, or more commonly known as Tor.

Document Freedom Day (DFD) is a global day for document liberation. It will be a day of grassroots effort to educate the public about the importance of Open Document Formats and Open Standards in general.

The meeting will bring together CI members and other NGOs from around the world to discuss and collaborate on issues of access to knowledge (A2K) and communications rights. FOSS will be one of the subjects under discussion.
